Food Was Never Meant to Be Transactional

Somewhere along the way, food became a transaction.

Fast. Cheap. Convenient.
Measured in dollars instead of impact.

But food was never meant to work that way.

At FoodZen, we’re building something different.

Meat the team!

What We’re Rooted In

Our work is guided by a simple question:
What am I responsible for, and who needs what?

Not:
“What can I get, how much can I make?”

This way of thinking is grounded in Indigenous food systems - where food is about balance, care, and relationship.

Colonial systems shifted that.

They turned food into a product.
A transaction.
A race to the bottom.

We’re choosing not to participate in that.

How That Shows Up

This isn’t just a belief - it shapes how we operate every day.

We focus on:
• Whole, minimally processed ingredients
• Choosing local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients whenever possible
• Reducing waste wherever possible
• Making thoughtful sourcing decisions when ideal options aren’t accessible

And just as importantly:
• Paying fair wages
• Creating sustainable, respectful work environments
• Building systems that value people, not just output

What You’re Supporting

When you choose FoodZen, you’re part of something bigger.

You’re helping us:
• Advocate for changes to food policies and regulations
• Push back on systems that limit Indigenous and traditional foods
• Support farmers who are often excluded from large-scale systems
• Create education and workshops that reconnect people to food

This work doesn’t always show up on a menu. But it’s built into everything we do.

Who We Work With

We don’t believe in partnerships just for growth.

We work with people who share our values:
• Care for community
• Respect for land and seasonality
• A commitment to doing things differently

Because alignment matters.

Food is how we take care of each other.

We’re here to do that - intentionally. One meal at a time.
